Yiftah Levin was born in Ness Ziona and before moving to Jerusalem, he resided in Kiryat Shmona and Afula. He is a PhD student at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the Folklore and Folk Culture program. His research focuses on the key as an object and symbol within the continuing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His ethnographic research, Between Heaven's Gate and the Nakba: The Key as an Inter-Textual Symbol in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, treats a complex collection of intergroup relationships and images associated to place and object. He has a master’s degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's department of Sociology and Anthropology. His thesis concentrated on a dance group and a travesties character in a pilgrimage site in Cusco, Peru. His research interest includes folklore, sacred places and pilgrimage, performance, Latin American studies, Middle Eastern studies and more.
